Great News!  Insights is hosting multiple science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) summer camps at UTEP this year.  Our summer camps provide a fun engaging environment for your kids with tons of hands-on activities.  They’re a great way to keep your kids engaged this summer and get ready for the start of the school year.  Students will learn problem solving-skills as they tackle challenges with real world connections.  We offer 10 great STEAM summer camps starting at $112.50 per week with early bird registration.  All UTEP summer camps are co-hosted by the P3 department which offers early drop-off, late pick-up, and other camp services.

Insights’ Fairy Tale Engineering Camp (Entering Grades 3-5)

Dates: June 15-19, 2020
Meets: M, Tu, W, Th and F from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
What do the Three Billy Goats Gruff and engineering have to do with each other? This camp will reveal how fairy tales present engineering challenges. Campers will use K’NEX and other materials to build and test bridges, and explore solutions to other challenges presented by stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and the Three Little Pigs.

Insights’ Engineering Camp (Entering Grades 6-8)

Dates: June 15-19, 2020
Meets: M, Tu, W, Th and F from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Rube Goldberg machines are unique creations, meant to perform a simple task in a complex way. Here, campers will first use K’NEX to build and explore simple machines. Then, they’ll use the engineering design process to plan, build, and test a Rube Goldberg gumball machine” using K’NEX and candy-related materials.

Insights’ Circuits Tent of Wonder (Entering Grades 6-8)

Dates: June 22-26, 2020
Meets: M, Tu, W, Th and F from 9:00 AM to 12 PM
This camp is designed to put campers’ knowledge of circuits to use. They will apply the fundamentals of circuitry to build an intelligent, self-stopping robot. Campers will also use Makey Makey kits and combine circuits with Scratch coding to write and animate an interactive story. Finally, using LEDs and conductive tape, they will create a greeting card that will literally light up a room.

Insights’ Meet the mBot Camp (Entering Grades 3-5)

Dates: June 22-26, 2020
Meets: M, Tu, W, Th and F from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Campers will be introduced to the world of robotics with the friendly miniature robot: the mBot. Using the mBlock app and simple drag-and-drop blocks, campers will learn how to code their new friend to complete a variety of tasks, including singing a song, drawing a picture on a piece of paper, and traveling through a maze of their own design.

Insights’ Launch into Science Camp (Entering Grades 3-5)

Dates: July 13-17, 2020
Meets: M, Tu, W, Th and F from 9:00 AM to 12 PM
Campers will explore the outer reaches of space, while keeping their feet on the ground. They will identify celestial objects and create an edible comet, as well as learn about adaptations to imagine life on an alien planet. Campers will use chemistry to launch a rocket into the sky and hold a galaxy in their hands in a DIY glitter bouncy ball.

Insights’ Robots and Drones Camp (Entering Grades 6-8)

Dates: July 13-17, 2020
Meets: M, Tu, W, Th and F from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Meet the tiny but mighty mBot. Using block-based coding, campers will use the mBot’s sensors and basic logic functions to program the robot to solve a mystery. Then, campers will build an obstacle course model of the International Space Station and fly the miniature robot/drone through it.

Insights’ Geology Rocks Camp (Entering Grades 3-5)

Dates: July 20-24, 2020
Meets: M, Tu, W, Th and F from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Did you know that licking rocks is something geologists often do? In this camp, campers can eat them by creating an edible rock cycle. They will learn about how fossils are made and create their own. They will also explore different types of weathering with sugar cube sculptures, complete a digital scavenger hunt, and use their creativity to rebuild a dinosaur.

Insights’ Coding Into Space (Entering Grades 6-8)

Dates: July 20-24, 2020
Meets: M, Tu, W, Th and F from 9:00 AM to 12 PM
Campers will be introduced to the wonderful language of Scratch. They will use the program to design their own space game. They will build their own Martian landscape and use Scratch to program an mBot to survive as a rover on it. Campers will also learn about the Voyager missions and create a personal Golden Record with original music and drumbeats.
