C.L.O.C.K.S. Science Saturdays – Every second Saturday of each
month during the school year, 10:00-11:00 a.m. $2 per person or $5 for a
family of four. Price includes museum admission. Space is limited to
30 children. A parent must accompany his/her child. Topic for the
2011-12 school year is time measurement, gears and levers, time zones,
and time relevance. Topic content uses the massive Mary Mead Lynch
Memorial Howard Tower Clock built in 1880 and associated interactive
exhibits. C.L.O.C.K.S. (Creative Learning Opportunities for the
Community & Kids through Science) is a cooperative project with the
Junior League of El Paso.
“Insights in Safety” Exhibit -
Developed in cooperation with the El Paso Fire Department and other
local agencies, “Insights in Safety” features the advancement of
science and technology in saving lives. Discover hands-on learning in
CPR, bike safety, fire safety, infant safety seats, drowning
prevention, and other skills that may help save a life. Watch for special grand opening
, date TBA.
Kids Palooza – May 24. “Magic” is the theme of this
year’s downtown event for children. Some of the many exhibits and
activities will be hosted by Insights El Paso Science Center, El Paso
Symphony Orchestra, El Paso Public Library, El Paso Museum of Art, El
Paso History Museum, City of El Paso Parks & Recreation and Museum &
Cultural Affairs Departments, El Paso Zoo, Railroad & Transportation
Museum, oLo Gallery, Kids-N-Co., El Paso Youth Opera, YWCA, and more!
International Museum Day – May 18 kicks off the
El
Paso Museums Summer Scavenger Hunt. Visit at least 10 of the
participating museums through July 29 and be eligible for a prize!
Discovery Summer Camp – June-July Insights’ premiere
summer camps, each a week-long of fun activities and discovery! Topics
and exact dates tba.
“El Paso’s Astronaut” – Insights’ upcoming exhibit featuring John
D. “Danny” Olivas, PhD, PE.
Insights will be home to the
professional and personal effects of Dr. Olivas’ life and career and a
testament to his “Reach for the Stars” accomplishments. Due to open
during summer, 2012, “El Paso’s Astronaut” will highlight Danny’s life
as a youngster growing up in El Paso and his career in the fields of
Engineering and Space Science.
