Come visit El Paso’s only dinosaur fossils, discovered in 2002 by a UTEP student at Cerro de Cristo Rey!  This trip will be a leisurely walk on the north side of Mt. Cristo Rey to explore marine fossils, cool layers of sedimentary rocks, and dinosaur footprints.  This dinosaur track site is from the middle-Cretaceous period and is the southernmost extension of the “Dinosaur Freeway.”  There is much history at this location.  We will discuss Paleontology, Archaeology, WWI and 20th century impacts to the land, as well as current developments.  Your guide is an expert Interpretive Naturalist and has been leading groups out at Cerro de Cristo Rey for 10 years.  Make sure to bring a camera and plenty of water.

The trip starts at 9am, Saturday, November 3rd. We will meet at 8:45am on Cristo Rey Road, Sunland Park, NM, south of the 1st set of railroad tracks.  If you Google Sunland Park, NM you will find the best map.  The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours.

This is a safe area, as we will not be hiking up the mountain.  Supervised children are welcome, but please note that there are several areas that are dangerous for unsupervised children.
