12th Nerd Night on Friday, November 9th:
Join us for an evening of stargazing!
Human beings have been looking to the stars for millennia, wondering what lies beyond. Why not look to the stars with a few new friends at our next Nerd Night? Learn all about the science of telescopes and the stories of the constellations while viewing Saturn, Jupiter, and much more! We will have great planet and star viewing with little light pollution right in town on Insights’ educational property at the base of Mt. Cristo Rey. If the weather is chilly, we’ll set up a few contained fire pits with light blocks to preserve the night sky view.
Great news! Many of Insights telescopes from the museum have been restored and will make their debut at Nerd Night: Astronomy!
- Blayne J Primozich – President of the Sun City Astronomers and Dean of Communication and Performing arts at EPCC’s Valle Verde Campus will help us understand how different types of telescopes work.
- Austin Campbell – Science teacher at Canutillo High School, former teacher of the year, and astronomy enthusiast will share some of the characters, stories and history of our constellations.
- Carlos Rodriguez of Hueco Tanks State Park & Lydia Page from Franklin Mountains State Park will discuss the impacts of urban light pollution.
BYOB (beverages), snacks, and telescopes!
