Does light roasted or dark roasted coffee contain more caffeine? And just what does that caffeine do once it hits your blood stream? This plant transformed into to a billion dollar industry. Coffee is loaded antioxidants, but their effectiveness is can be drastically limited by coffee roasting, coffee sourcing, and caffeine physiology. Join our next Nerd Night to learn more about America’s favorite drug: coffee roasting, brewing, and science while sipping on a nice coffee stout at Savage Goods.
- [Coffee Roasting] – Arleen Mendez will speak about coffee roasting, namely how the roasting process affects the brew and ultimate flavor. Arleen is the owner and founder of Bean Type Coffee Roasters, a local coffee company in El Paso, TX. She has been empowering the dialogue around coffee for three years.
- [Coffee Sourcing] – Paulina Salazar, the head roster and founder fo BLDG6 Coffee Roasters will discuss coffee souring and trace-ability, specifically, how your morning brew made its way from the farm to your cup.
- [Caffeine Physiology] – Dr. Jennifer Molokwu will discuss effects of caffeine on the human body. Dr. Molokwu is Director of Medical Student Education and an Associate Professor in the Texas Tech Department of Family and Community Medicine.
