Nerd Night: BioCakes
Thursday, July 7, 2022 @ 6:00pm
GMO 101 | Hands-on GMO Experiment | Cake Baking and Eating | Ethics of GMO’s
“GMO” (genetically modified organism) has become the common term consumers and popular media use to describe foods that have been created through genetic engineering. But such methods are not new. In fact, some of the earliest use of GMOs in agriculture dates back to the 1980s when the food industry sought new ways to increase the yield and profitability of crops. Despite long scientific research, there still remains the underlying debate among the ethics of GMO practices and health of the consumers.
Join us for our next Nerd Night where we will explore all the advancements in GMO research and uses, and lead an open discussion on the ethics of GMOs. During this interactive Nerd Night event, attendees will participate in a hands-on GMO experiment, modifying yeast cells. This will be a tasty and intriguing event!
**Purchased tickets come with Bio-Cake kit that will be used during the hands-on activity and cake treats to eat during the event.
